1946 Gibson J-45 Guitar

Written by Jazz Brown

This is a 1946 Gibson J-45. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, it has a sunburst spruce top, dark stained mahogany back and sides and a rosewood fingerboard. With typical wartime/post war features such as a round neck profile, straight rosewood bridge, small tortoise celluloid pickguard, flat plate strip tuners and gold decal Gibson script logo. 1940’s Gibson jumbo guitars are generally spectacular sounding instruments and this one is no exception. It shows accumulated wear but remains in fine playing shape. All repairs have been completed and include new frets, a new bone nut, bridge pins, several re-glued braces and several repaired back and side cracks. Several of the cracks were substantial but have been glued and cleated. The peghead shows wear at the top and the tuner buttons are beginning to crumble. The original tuners do however, hold tune quite well. Always interested in trades for vintage Martin or Gibson acoustics.
